UConn hosting cannabis conference in March

The University of Connecticut (UConn) is hosting a cannabis conference in March to bring together cannabis experts and researchers just months after the state’s recreational cannabis market launched.

The UConn Cannabis Symposium is scheduled for March 16 and 17 at the university’s main campus in Storrs. According to organizers, the two-day event will include discussions about cannabis genetics and biology, clinical applications of cannabis, enhancing cannabis production, and cannabis law, among other topics.

UConn said it expects the event to include experts in plant science, law, health, and pharmaceutical sciences who will share their information and research in the emerging cannabis research field.

In addition to panels, cannabis scholar Aron Lichtman from Virginia Commonwealth University will be a featured speaker.

UConn has been involved in cannabis research even before the state’s recreational market opened. In 2019, UConn announced it would offer the nation’s first university class on the fundamentals of cannabis horticulture. Researchers at UConn have also studied micropropagation, molecular genetics, economics, and human health impact regarding cannabis.

Connecticut’s adult-use cannabis market launched Jan. 10.
