UConn Health is planning to consolidate several offices at its Brain & Spine Institute, to be located in a newly constructed building at 1 Munson Road in Farmington.
The 30,262-square-foot medical office with a brick exterior is on a 5.32-acre property that is being developed by Farmington-based Metro Realty.
Metro Realty has submitted an application to the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission seeking approval for two signs that will be illuminated by LED lights, one that says “Brain & Spine Institute” and the other “UConn Health.”
The Planning and Zoning Commission is set to hold a special meeting at 6:30 tonight.
UConn’s Health’s Brain & Spine Institute provides comprehensive care in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery, spine surgery, nonoperative spine care and radiology, according to its website.
While construction of the building was completed in 2021, UConn Health is still working on the interior fit out.
The goal is to begin moving into the new Brain & Spine Institute in early 2024, possibly as early as January, a UConn Health spokesperson said.
In June 2022, UConn Health’s board of trustees approved an $8.38 million budget for the project.
In a letter dated June 20, 2022 to Dr. Bruce T. Liang, UConn Health interim executive vice president for health affairs and dean of the UConn School of Medicine, the board said it planned to relocate and combine UConn Health’s specialty practices of neurology, neurosurgery/cranial and comprehensive spine (orthopedics and neurosurgery) from the UConn Health Outpatient Pavilion at 135 Dowling Way in Farmington, into the new space.
The relocation will allow UConn’s Health clinical program at the Outpatient Pavillion to be expanded, the letter states.
