UConn Health names full-time CFO as university restructures financial leadership

The University of Connecticut has restructured its senior financial leadership, with Jeffrey Geoghegan — who has served three years as executive vice president for finance and chief financial officer for both UConn and UConn Health — becoming UConn Health’s exclusive CFO.

As a result, UConn has launched a search for a new CFO.

As UConn Health’s full-time CFO, Geoghegan will focus entirely on UConn’s academic medical center, as it pursues strategic clinical growth plans under the leadership of CEO Dr. Andrew Agwunobi.

“Due to the enormity and complexity of this process, on top of the normal work of managing UConn Health’s budget year-to-year, we agreed that Jeff’s exclusive focus must be on UConn Health during this critical time,” UConn President Radenka Maric said in an announcement.

The move represents a return to familiar territory for Geoghegan, who previously served as UConn Health’s CFO beginning in 2013 before adding the broader role at UConn.
To fill the gap at the main university, Maric has appointed Reka Wrynn as interim vice president for finance at UConn.

Wrynn, a 26-year university veteran who has served as associate vice president for budget, planning and institutional research since 2022, will expand her responsibilities to include oversight of the Financial Operations and Controller’s Division and the Procurement Office.

The university will soon launch a search for a permanent executive vice president for operations and CFO for the Storrs and regional campuses, with assistance from Russell Reynolds Associates. The search committee will be chaired by Nathan Fuerst, vice president for student life and enrollment, and includes representatives from across the university system.

The leadership restructuring comes as UConn Health continues to expand its clinical operations and strategic positioning in Connecticut’s healthcare landscape.
