UConn Health will begin moving patients into its new 11-story John Dempsey Hospital tower in Farmington on Friday.
About 80 to 100 inpatients may be part of the move, which is expected to take a few hours and be completed by early afternoon, according to a notice from UConn Health.
The new Emergency Department at UConn John Dempsey Hospital will open at 5 a.m. on Friday with newly arriving patients and ambulances directed there by new signage, UConn Health Police and parking staff. Patients in the existing Emergency Department will be either discharged or admitted to the hospital by 5 a.m.
At 6 a.m., UConn John Dempsey Hospital leadership, doctors, nurses, staff, and volunteers will begin moving each inpatient from their existing hospital patient room in “Connecticut Tower” to one of the 169 new private patient rooms in the new “University Tower.”
Five floors of inpatients will be moved, starting with the intensive care unit and continuing until all inpatient floors of patients are successfully moved.
