Avon resident and former University of Connecticut School of Medicine graduate Dr. Brian Shames is returning to his roots as a director of the division of general surgery at the UConn Health Center.
Shames has a background in transplant surgery as well as complex hepatobiliary procedures and abdominal surgery. He was a transplant research fellow, then a clinical transplant fellow, at the University of Wisconsin.
His residency training, in general surgery, was at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, where he also was a National Institutes of Health research fellow.
