UConn grad students ratify first contract

UConn’s 2,200 graduate students have ratified their first union contract.

The Members of the Graduate Employee Union-United Auto Workers Local 6950 voted 1,103-10 in favor of the contract on Monday, the UAW announced Wednesday.

UConn’s Board of Trustees has also approved the contract, which must now be approved by state legislators, according to UConn Today.

The three-year contract includes improved health benefits with no premium increases, nearly $900 in relief per member from rising student fees, a 9.3 percent wage increase, six weeks of paid maternity leave, and childcare subsidies.
