Fairfield conglomerate General Electric provided a five-year, $7.5 million investment to the University of Connecticut to develop an advanced technology initiative.
The money comes from GE’s Industrial Solutions segment, based out of Plainville and working on technologies such as electric vehicle charging stations.
The advanced technology initiative tries to bring together researchers from various academic disciplines and the energy industry to research electrical-protection technologies.
The breakdown of funding includes $1.5 million for a GE professorship in the UConn School of Engineering; $2.7 million for graduate and undergraduate sponsorships; and $3.3 million for GE-directed research in materials, manufacturing, and advanced circuit breaker technologies.
