UConn Foundation takes over alumni role

The UConn Foundation said its board of directors has approved a takeover of the UConn Alumni Association.

The approval, which still requires a sign off by the school’s trustees, comes after the alumni association’s February vote to dissolve itself.

UConn said that the combined foundation-alumni model, which is becoming increasingly common in higher education, would improve services and programs and broaden UConn’s base of involved alumni by no longer charging membership dues.

UConn President Susan Herbst believes dues have caused the school’s alumni outreach efforts to stagnate, the Connecticut Mirror reported earlier this month.
