UConn football heading back to Fenway Park for bowl game

The University of Connecticut football team has Wasabi on its holiday menu again.

The 9-3 Huskies will face the 6-4 Army Black Knights in the fourth annual Wasabi Fenway Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 27, at 2:15 p.m. The game will be shown live on ESPN. Ticket information is available here.

This is the third time in four years UConn has been invited to a bowl game, and the second straight year it has been invited to the Wasabi Fenway Bowl. Last year, the Huskies defeated the University of North Carolina 27-14 in front of 27,900 fans to complete a 9-4 season.

This year was the first time the Huskies have won nine games in back-to-back seasons. A win in the bowl game would be the first time UConn has posted 10 wins in a season in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), and the first time overall since 1998.

The Huskies will play the game without head coach Jim Mora, who resigned last month to accept the head coaching position at Colorado State University. Offensive Coordinator Gordon Sammis will lead the team in the bowl game.

UConn announced over the weekend it has hired University of Toledo head coach Jason Candle to succeed Mora.

In its history, UConn is 5-5 in bowl games overall, including 1-1 in Mora’s four years as coach.
