UConn establishes Christopher J. Dodd Chair in Human Rights Practice

The University of Connecticut Board of Trustees recently approved the creation of the Christopher J. Dodd Chair in Human Rights Practice, named after the state’s former U.S. senator.

The university said the chair position is endowed and funded by gifts, especially given to the UConn Foundation by donors to support scholarships, outreach, and teaching in human rights and related critical areas.

UConn said the chair position will allow the university to attract an innovative scholar to direct the Dodd Programs providing a platform for engaging the broader public while also acting as a bridge between the resources and expertise of UConn’s Human Rights Institute and local, national and global communities.

The Dodd Chair will head the Dodd Human Rights Impact programs and will be filled after an international search that will begin this month, the university said.

Dr. Radenka Maric, UConn’s interim president, said Dodd “dedicated his life to serving the people of Connecticut and to defending the fundamental rights and freedoms in the U.S. and around the world.”
