UConn, Dan Hurley agree on new six-year, $31.5M contract

UConn men’s basketball head coach Dan Hurley has signed a new six-year, $31.5 million contract to remain through 2029, following the team’s successful 2023 season and NCAA championship win.

The contract includes the opportunity for Hurley to earn additional compensation in the
form of performance-based incentives, according to an announcement from Director of Athletics David Benedict on Wednesday.

“I am thrilled to have Dan Hurley leading our men’s basketball program,” Benedict said. “The work he and his staff have done over the past five years in rebuilding our program, which culminated in the Huskies once again reaching the pinnacle of college basketball, has been nothing short of remarkable.”

Hurley became UConn’s head coach in March 2018 and has helped turn the team around after several losing seasons.

“I want to thank the players and staff who helped make this climb possible,” Hurley said. “Coaching at the University of Connecticut is an honor and we intend to build on our success as one of the premier programs in college basketball.”

With a 31-8 record, 2022-23 was Hurley’s first 30-win season. His 13-year career record stands at 255-160 (.614).  His five-year record at UConn is 104-55 (.654, which is the fourth-highest winning percentage among UConn coaches who coached more than 20 games in UConn’s 100-plus years of basketball history.

Salary increases in Hurley’s new contract and other program investments will be covered by donations to the Husky Athletic Fund and increased ticket sales revenue, according to the announcement.
