The University of Connecticut Board of Trustees Wednesday morning unanimously approved the transfer of UConn-owned land formerly home to the Bergin Correctional Institution back to the state for the construction of a regional technical high school.
The board unanimously approved the sale without discussion. There are no costs associated with the transfer, officials said.
The approximate 35-acre property will be transferred to the state’s Office of Policy and Management along with about 25 acres of nearby undeveloped UConn property. The new technical high school will replace Windham Tech in Willimantic.
UConn has used the property the past six years for, among other things, a parking and staging site for contractors working on on-campus construction projects.
The site had most recently been the home of the minimum-security Bergin Correctional Institution, which closed its doors in 2011.
