UConn approves $44M for South Campus infrastructure projects

The UConn Board of Trustees Wednesday morning unanimously approved $44 million for infrastructure upgrades to the school’s South Campus in Storrs, which will be the site of a new $215 million residence hall that is expected to be ready by fall 2024.

The board previously signed off on $11 million for South Campus upgrades, which will support the new residence tower. The combined funds will pay for new utilities including steam, electric, hot and chilled water, communications, sanitary, stormwater, and domestic water for the South Campus Residence Hall.

Another round of South Campus infrastructure initiatives will consist of a new geothermal heating and cooling system, including a ground source heat exchange program. The upgrades are being done in three phases.

The Board of Trustees last summer approved the $215 million investment in a new 657-bed South Campus Residence Hall that will also include a 500-seat dining hall.

The South Campus facility, the university said, will also have intimate and friendly public spaces where students can gather, socialize or study.
