UConn applications up 10 percent

UConn said it received more than 29,500 enrollment applications for its fall 2014 semester — 10 percent more than last year.

UConn plans to accept approximately 3,550 freshmen, it said.

The university’s 2013 enrollment was up 0.7 percent, at 30,256, according to the State Office of Higher Education. That was below a peak of 30,525 hit in 2011.

Overall, college enrollment in Connecticut was down by 0.4 percent in 2013, driven mainly by a decline in part-time students.
