U. of Hfd. names business dean

The University of Hartford has named a South Carolina business educator as dean of the Barney School of Business, it announced.

Martin S. Roth will start his new job Aug. 19. He comes from the University of South Caroline, where he chaired the international business department at that university’s school of business.

“Marty Roth is a highly accomplished academic leader who understands the competitive environment surrounding schools of business and the resulting need for a distinctive value proposition for our own Barney School,” said Sharon L. Vasquez, provost of the university.

Roth replaces James Fairfield-Sonn, who stepped down effective June 30 after nine years in the role. Following a leave this fall, Fairfield-Sonn plans to return as a Barney faculty member.
