Tyler Anderson’s downtown Hartford restaurant reopens after two years

Two years after closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Terreno restaurant in downtown Hartford’s Goodwin hotel reopened last week, another sign of increasing life in the center city.

Terreno, located on the first floor of The Goodwin hotel, 1 Haynes St., had a soft reopening beginning last week and is now fully operational. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturday.

“It’s been good,” owner Tyler Anderson said of the reopening so far. “We kind of wanted to keep it quiet the first week so we could train, but we’re encouraged by what we think will happen.”

Anderson said his company does all the food service and hosts events at The Goodwin hotel, which helped it stay afloat during the pandemic.

Anderson also owns Millwright’s Restaurant and Tavern in Simsbury. He said choosing the right time to reopen Terreno was key, and he’s seen foot traffic in downtown Hartford rise in recent weeks and months.

“We’ve been following COVID tendencies and all these things to choose the right time,” Anderson said. “We sort of had the luxury of waiting until the time was right … I didn’t want to do the reopening in the summer because Hartford in the summer is not the prettiest thing for restaurants.”
