Tyler Anderson to recast downtown Hartford restaurant

Famed local chef Tyler Anderson is recasting his downtown Hartford restaurant converting the Spanish-themed eatery, Restaurant Porron, into a Cal-Italian concept.

Anderson said Restaurant Porron, located in the Goodwin Hotel at 1 Haynes St., will close next week and be converted into Terreno.

The refreshed restaurant, which will debut Feb. 10, will have a new Cal-Italian menu, which means Italian-inspired foods made with local ingredients and simple presentations.

Menu items will include a variety of homemade pasta dishes, pizzettes and chef-driven and Italian-inspired comfort food.

There will also be healthy fresh food options.

“Restaurant Porrón was inspired by a love of Spanish-style cuisine,” Anderson said. “And that’s because it was inspired by a trip I took with my wife, and my role as a culinary ambassador to Spain in 2017. Now, after our newlywed year, I continue to be inspired by my family, and look forward to letting the menu reflect that once again. Our team will stay close to our roots with our farm-fresh New England ingredients guiding dishes that evoke the familiarity of my childhood in California and the flavors of my wife’s Sicilian ancestry.”

Bar Piña, Porrón’s sister bar will remain open throughout the restaurant’s rebrand and will continue to offer donuts and an unlimited dinner menu, Anderson said.

Anderson and his team — TandA Restaurant Group – debuted in Hartford’s Goodwin Hotel in 2018 following the closure Harlan Brasserie, which had a short-lived run there.

Goodwin Hotel is co-owned by Randy Salvatore, founder of Stamford-based RMS Cos. and the developer of Downtown North, and Charles Mallory, chief executive of the Greenwich Hospitality Group.

They reopened the 124-room luxury hotel in 2017, after it was mothballed for nearly a decade.
