Enfield Community Federal Credit Union has won approval to widen its membership base beyond the town’s borders, authorities say.
The National Credit Union Association (NCUA) recently approved the expansion, Enfield Community CEO William Hagist said Wednesday.
Its membership expansion now includes individuals, businesses or other legal entities living or operating within lives in Hartford County, or the Tolland County communities of Ellington, Somers and Stafford in Tolland County, Hagist said.
In particular, Enfield Community covets the growing number of automobile-auction and car sales businesses sprouting along the nearby Route 5/15 corridor, Hagist said. Those firms and their employees are now eligible to join its membership.
It has 3,800 members of assets of more than $24 million.
Separately, East Hartford’s First New England Federal Credit Union has asked the state banking department for permission to convert from a federal to a state charter and to expand its Hartford County membership field into neighboring Tolland County, regulators said.
First New England has about 10,500 members.
