Two CT regional Easter Seals merge

Easter Seals Greater Hartford Rehabilitation Center in Windsor has acquired Easter Seals Connecticut in Norwich, raising the statewide reach of the newly consolidated affiliate.

Renamed Easter Seals Capital Region & Eastern Connecticut, officials said it is now the largest Easter Seals affiliate in Connecticut, serving 1.3 million people in 77 communities from offices in Windsor, East Hartford, Norwich and Chaplin.

The merger is continuation of consolidation under way among nonprofits in Connecticut and nationwide to cut costs to retain services amid dwindling public and private financial support due to the recession.

“This is the largest growth our organization has seen within our 62 years of operation,” said Dr. Allen S. Gouse, president and CEO of Easter Seals Capital Region & Eastern Connecticut.

Easter Seals mainly provides medical and vocational rehabilitation and transportation services.
