Two CT byways rated most scenic

America’s Byways named two Connecticut roadways among the top 50 most comfortable touring drives in its survey to determine what travelers want out of their fall motoring getaways.

The rolling, tree-lined Merritt Parkway, which runs 37 miles through Connecticut’s Gold Coast in Fairfield County into New York, was named to the list.

Also rated is Connecticut Route 169, traversing the state’s far-eastern corner. America’s Byways recommends the stretch from Lisbon to Pomfret.

“This fall, for not a lot of money, travelers can skip the superhighways and exit to the smaller roadways to experience some of the best roads America has to offer,” said Derrick Crandall, spokesperson for America’s Byways, in a statement.
