Two more people have been arrested in an ongoing federal probe of the bail bond industry in Connecticut.
Jill D’Antona of Seymour and Cynthia Nixon of New Haven, also known as Cynthia Hayward-McClendon, have been charged with theft or bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds.
D’Antona works as a judicial marshal at the New Haven courthouse on Elm Street. Nixon is a clerk in the public defender’s office in the same building.
The two appeared in New Haven federal court today and were each released on $25,000 bond. They are due back in court Dec. 21.
If convicted, each faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Earlier this year, the head of New Haven’s drug unit was arrested and charged with taking tens of thousands of dollars in bribes from the bail bondsmen in return for capturing fugitives who skipped bail. Three bail bondsmen were also arrested.
