Two area lighting manufacturers combine

Two New Haven area makers of lighting products for hotels, restaurants, museums, offices, universities, monuments and more are joining forces.

West Haven’s The Lighting Quotient said it has acquired Electrix LLC, a longtime architectural lighting manufacturer based in New Haven’s Hill neighborhood.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Architectural lighting pioneer Sylvan R. Schemitz founded The Lighting Quotient in 1977 and its products include office lighting brand Tambient as well as performance luminary brand Elliptipar, according to the company website.

The company, located on Boston Post Road, said the acquisition will strengthen its position in the LED lighting market and will add to its manufacturing operations in the state.

“We are adding highly skilled engineering capacity and integrating strong manufacturing capabilities in order to add breadth and depth to our portfolio of innovative high-performance luminaries,” Allison Schieffelin, CEO of The Lighting Quotient, said in a statement.

She said Electrix is a brand known for its “innovative indoor and outdoor linear and in-grade luminaries.”

Electrix President Dwight Kitchen said in a statement that the acquisition would “enhance the visibility of Electrix in the marketplace” and allow for accelerated product development and “a wider selection of fixtures to satisfy customer demand.”
