The Mark Twain House & Museum on Tuesday evening announced the historic site will install solar panels to boost the facility’s clean energy portfolio.
At the author’s 175th birthday celebration, the museum turned green, announcing the solar panels along with other energy saving initiatives. The Mark Twain Museum Center was the first building in Connecticut to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
At the party Tuesday night, the Association of Energy Engineers-Connecticut Chapter honored the museum for its participation in the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund’s Small Business Energy Advantage Program.
The museum also announced its participation in the Nuride program, which lets people accumulate points by commuting to work by foot, bicycle, carpool or public transportation, and then rewards them based on points earned. The museum will offer free admission to those who gets enough Nuride points.
