Slow and steady wins the race.
That’s the theme at Lyman Orchards’ fourth annual sunflower maze this year, as the 45-minute walking challenge is shaped like a turtle. The maze debuts on July 31 at the 1,100-acre Middletown orchard.
The turtle theme came from kids at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, who proposed several designs before fans at 105.9 FM picked the winner. The path extends more than two miles with many decision-making points along the way, where patrons must answer trivia to find the exit.
For every maze ticket sold, Lyman Orchards donates $1 to Connecticut Children’s. Since its start, the maze has contributed more than $20,000 to the hospital’s pediatric cancer unit.
Admission is $9 for adults and $5 for children. Maze hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
