Turley increases CT presence with Life Pubs purchase

Turley Publications, a Massachusetts publishing company that bought the Valley Press and the West Hartford Press last year, has purchased Life Publications Inc., the companies announced.

Life, a monthly publication, has grown over the past 17 years to serve nine communities, including Avon, Canton, Farmington, Glastonbury, Newington, Rocky Hill, Simsbury, West Hartford and Wethersfield.

Turley said it will operate the company, which has been based in West Hartford, from Simsbury under the name TurleyCT Community Publications.

Turley said “much of the staff” currently employed by the LIFE papers will remain with the new company.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“The Life papers have their own track record of excellence in Connecticut and we believe that as one company we can create the synergy necessary to deliver the best products possible to both our readers and advertisers,” Keith Turley, executive vice president of Turley Publications, said in an announcement.

Chris White, owner of Life Publications, called the news bittersweet, but said Turley is best positioned to guide the publications through a quickly changing media landscape.

White said he will continue to produce the annual LEGO KidsFest in Hartford and other cities.
