Trump may tangle Hartford commuter traffic

You might want to head out of the office early today – or take a different route. The appearance by GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump at the Connecticut Convention Center is expected to create a traffic morass.

Business commuters who anticipate leaving the city, via the Columbus Blvd and Founders Bridge area, should consider leaving early or choosing an alternate route, said the Hartford Police Department in a statement. Trump is scheduled to appear at a rally beginning at 7 p.m.

Public safety officials are expecting what they call a traffic impact this afternoon through rush hour and beyond in the area of the convention center, which is located at 100 Columbus Blvd. The police say to expect delays as well in the area of State Street, American Row, and access to the Founders Bridge, as well as I-84 East and Route 2. The Hartford Police Department will have traffic division officers in the area to facilitate smooth traffic flow.

Also, police advise those attending the rally to get there early because of tight security.
