Tripp to run The Hartford’s marketing

Karen C. Tripp has joined Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. as executive vice president for marketing and communications.

Tripp, who reported for work Monday, oversees brand management and advertising, executive and employee communications, media relations and philanthropic activities. She reports to Chairman and CEO Liam E. McGee

“Unlocking the full power of The Hartford brand is a critical element of the company’s go-forward strategy,” McGee said in a statement. “Karen has an extensive background in developing marketing and communications programs that align the brand to business strategy and tie it to the unique needs of customers.”

Tripp has more than 20 years of marketing and communications experience, and recently served as vice president of corporate communications for New York defense contractor L-3 Communications, which has operations in Shelton.

Before that, she was general manager of global communications for General Electric’s infrastructure business, a position she held from 2002 to 2007. Tripp also served as vice president of corporate communications for Rockwell Collins from 1997 to 2002.

Tripp earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Dakota. She is a licensed pilot and flight instructor.

She is moving to the Hartford area from Cincinnati, where she served on the boards of the Fine Arts Fund and the American Red Cross.
