A professor at Trinity College in Hartford won a $902,000 National Science Foundation grant to teach the first batch of Hartford high school computer science instructors.
Trinity computer science professor Ralph Morelli said Monday he hopes to train at least 30 teachers from summer 2013 to Dec. 31, 2015. The instructors will participate in a six-week training course to teach computer science courses starting in the 2013-2014 academic year.
The program will expanded in its second year to other Connecticut cities and towns that also don’t offer computer science courses to students. Morelli hopes as many as 600 students will be impacted by the project.
The program is a collaboration between Trinity, the Hartford Public School System, the Connecticut Chapter of Computer Science Teachers Association, and Hartford high schools.
