The University of Hartford Department of Athletics and Trinity Health-New England have reached an agreement for Trinity to provide all healthcare services to the school’s 344 student-athletes.
Dr. Brett Wasserlauf, an orthopedic surgeon with the Connecticut Sports Medicine Institute at Trinity’s St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center and orthopedic surgeon with Connecticut Orthopedic Associates in Bloomfield and Glastonbury, will oversee athletes’ care.
Wasserlauf’s background includes serving as associate team physician for St. Louis’ professional baseball, football and hockey teams, the Cardinals, Rams and Blues. He held that position before coming to Connecticut in 2003, when he was a fellow in sports medicine in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine/Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
“His experience working in professional hockey, baseball and football will play a pivotal role in enhancing our medical service to each of our student-athletes,” said John Carson, interim athletics director.
