Trinity Health of New England and Hartford HealthCare, which operate 13 hospitals in Connecticut and Massachusetts, have announced new visitor restrictions amid the significant uptick in COVID-19 infection rates.
The new policies took effect Jan. 3 and will remain in place until further notice.
Trinity Health of New England, parent to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, said its hospitals will allow just one fully vaccinated adult visitor per patient, per day in inpatient units; for minors two fully vaccinated parents can visit per patient. The hospital group said compassionate care exceptions may be granted.
Trinity Health of New England also said that one fully vaccinated adult visitor would be allowed for patients in the emergency department or undergoing surgical procedures. In addition, Trinity Health said there would be no visitors for patients testing positive for COVID-19 or those patients under investigation for the virus with the exception of compassionate care circumstances.
Similarly, Hartford HealthCare, parent of Hartford Hospital, announced that each patient may have one visitor per day during normal visiting hours. Exceptions will be allowed for patients with disabilities, compassionate end-of-life visitation, and in the labor and delivery areas.
Hartford HealthCare said it will allow visitors for patients with COVID-19, but they will be required to wear personal protective equipment that will be provided.
