Trinity College opens innovation center in downtown Hartford

Trinity College opened a 13,000-square-foot facility in downtown Hartford that will serve as the school’s innovation center.

The Trinity Innovation Center, which the school said was made possible by a $2.5 million grant from the state, is on the third floor of 1 Constitution Plaza, the school said. It will serve as the focus for Trinity’s Applied Learning Initiative partnership with tech company Infosys, which provides a five-week business analysis training program for liberal-arts graduates.

More than 150 Infosys employees have trained through this program, which previously had been held at other locations on campus during the past year.

The new innovation center will also host Digital Health CT, a startup accelerator run by Startupbootcamp and new innovation and entrepreneurship programming for students.

Trinity Interim Dean of the Faculty and Vice President of Academic Affairs Sonia Cardenas said the innovation center will advance initiatives by the city and state to create more innovation-focused businesses in Hartford.

“Institutions of higher education, including Trinity, are essential to these initiatives,” Cardenas said. “We have a strong pool of talent and are positioned to bridge the liberal arts with digital technology and innovation. We’re proud to have Trinity be a strong presence in downtown Hartford.”

The space was designed by Glastonbury architectural firm the SLAM Collaborative. A ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony will be held this spring.

Trinity College already had a presence downtown with its Liberal Arts Action Lab at 10 Constitution Plaza, which opened a few years ago. The lab, an educational partnership with Capital Community College, allows students to define and try to come up with solutions to community problems.
