Trinity College names new president

Trinity College announced Tuesday that it has named Daniel G. Lugo as its next president.

Lugo, currently president of Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina, will become Trinity’s 23rd president.

Trinity said Lugo “brings with him a wealth of expertise and years of academic leadership.”

Lugo will begin his new role at the liberal arts college in Hartford on July 1, 2025.

He will succeed Trinity President Joanne Berger-Sweeney, who announced her retirement plans earlier this year. She has led the college for 11 years.

Lugo was selected after a national search for Berger-Sweeney’s replacement.

“The search committee was impressed immediately by Dan, who stood out above a highly competitive pool for his track record of accomplishments and for his deep commitment to the value of a liberal arts education and to fostering a sense of belonging on campus,” said Lisa Bisaccia, chair of the Trinity College Board of Trustees. “We particularly noted Dan’s ability to steer institutions toward enduring financial strength while amplifying their brand and deepening campus pride.”
