Trinity College’s plan to build a new on-campus entrepreneurship and innovation center in Hartford has entered the city’s planning and zoning process, offering new details about the scope and site work for the project.
The college has filed a special permit application with Hartford seeking approval to construct a roughly 4,870-square-foot academic building at 110 Vernon St., adjacent to the Cornelia Center.
The proposal is slated for discussion at the Planning & Zoning and Inland Wetlands Commissions meeting on April 28.
The proposed one-story structure will house classroom space, offices, and student incubator and accelerator areas, along with conference space and a kitchenette, according to application materials. The building is intended to support Trinity’s entrepreneurship programming, which the college has been expanding in recent years.
As previously reported, the project — to be named the Elizabeth Elting Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship — is backed by a lead gift from alumna Elizabeth “Liz” Elting.
The application provides a more detailed look at the site plan. The building would be constructed between the Cornelia Center and North Campus Hall, with a new plaza connecting the facilities. Existing exterior stairs leading to the Cornelia Center would be removed and replaced as part of the project.
Plans also call for some tree removal and landscaping changes, which will require additional city approvals.
The application does not list a construction cost. Trinity previously said it expects to begin construction in late spring 2026, with the building targeted to open in fall 2027.
