While Trinity College students prepare for final examinations next month, a movie crew will likely be filming scenes for an upcoming major motion picture on the campus quad.
The movie, “The Madmen’s Tale,” is set to star Irish-born actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who worked alongside Scarlett Johansson in Woody Allen’s 2005 Oscar nominated romantic comedy, “Match Point.”
Reportedly, the college has caught the eye of Hollywood several times this fall, with four location scouts visiting it.
Location scouts for Miramax Films checked out the campus for an upcoming Meryl Streep film, “Doubt.” Trinity’s spokeswoman Michele Jacklin said in an e-mail that “the film company was looking for ‘a generic New England campus’ and liked what they saw here. … They loved the campus, but the problem is that the most picturesque and historic part of the campus — The Long Walk — is under construction, so they ultimately decided to film the movie elsewhere.” School officials are optimistic about their future relationships with Hollywood film production companies once construction is complete next August.
According to the governor’s office, the entire state has been getting a lot of interest from Hollywood movie makers since a new film production tax credit went into effect.
Since lawmakers offered movie producers a tax break last year, filmmakers have spent more than $300 million in the state.
