The Hartford Courant’s publisher is headed to a sister paper in Florida, less than a year after she was promoted to the top spot at the Hartford daily, Tribune Publishing announced Friday.
Nancy Meyer, who assumed the publisher’s role in mid-November 2013 after the departure of Rich Graziano, will be replaced by Rick Daniels, who was most recently chief operating officer of Rhode Island’s GoLocal24, a news website with operations in Providence and Worcester.
Meanwhile, Meyer will be publisher and CEO of Orlando Sentinel Media Group, the Tribune said.
The change will take effect in early November.
Meyer has been with the Courant for eight years. Her tenure as publisher included the Tribune’s split of its broadcast and print businesses into two separate publicly traded entities, which analysts said put increased financial pressures on its newspapers.
Meyer also oversaw the Courant’s acquisition of weekly newspaper group Reminder Media and the transition of the Hartford Advocate and New Haven Advocate to the CTNow brand, a weekly publication and website covering music, food and drink, arts and other entertainment in the state.
Prior to his stint at GoLocal, Daniels was president and CEO of Gatehouse Media New England. He also spent 23 years at the Boston Globe, six of them as president and general manager.
