The board of defense contractor General Dynamics, which has operations in Groton and Rocky Hill, has elected Chicago banker William A. Osborn as a director, effective Dec. 1.
Osborn, 61, is the chairman and a director of investment management company Northern Trust Corp. He will retire from the Northern Trust board in November.
He is also a director of Tribune Co., parent of The Hartford Courant and Fox TV Channel 61, as well as Caterpillar Inc., and Abbott Laboratories.
Osborn also serves on the board of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and the Chicago Urban League, among others.
Virginia-based General Dynamics operates submarine-builder Electric Boat in Groton and in September acquired former Axsys Technologies, an imaging and surveillance systems maker in Rocky Hill.
