The Travelers Cos. is extending its title sponsorship of the Travelers Championship through 2030, CEO Alan Schnitzer announced today.
Appearing during a virtual press conference alongside Gov. Ned Lamont, sportscaster Chris Berman, and various PGA officials, Schnitzer said the tournament has been instrumental in raising money for charity and generating economic activity in the state.
Lamont praised Travelers for its renewed commitment to the tournament and said last year’s championship, staged amidst the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, played a critical role in the state’s gradual reopening by giving residents and area golf fans “something to root for.”
“Travelers was an amazing shot in the arm for Connecticut,” the governor said.
Defending champion Dustin Johnson has committed to play in this year’s tournament, as have Bryson DeChambeau and three-time winner Bubba Watson, among others.
The Travelers Championship is staged each year in June at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell. Travelers has been the title sponsor since 2007.
The event was known as the Greater Hartford Open until 2004.
