Property and casualty insurer Travelers Cos. has released a report showing it gave $8.2 million in charitable and community donations in Connecticut in 2024, $6.8 million of that in Hartford.
The 2024 report, “Stories That Connect Us,” highlights the company’s giving and volunteer efforts. The insurer says its employees logged more than 52,000 volunteer hours in the state during 2024.
Among the educational initiatives highlighted in the report is $500,000 that was given to UConn in support of its new residence hall in downtown Hartford. The funding helps cover the cost of room and board for economically disadvantaged students.
“Our relationship with UConn spans decades, and we are proud to be a part of the university’s efforts in expanding its presence in downtown Hartford,” said Travelers’ Chief Administrative Officer Andy Bessette. “UConn’s dedication to excellence in education is why it was one of our inaugural partners when we started our school-to-career pipeline program, Travelers EDGE, 17 years ago.”
The report also details the company’s partnership with ReadyCT to provide Hartford-area high school students with professional development opportunities, including hosting 25 students from ReadyCT’s G.R.I.T. program, which offers project-based learning experiences in insurance, financial services and technology.
The Connecticut figures were part of the company’s overall donations in U.S. communities of more than $24 million in 2024.
