The primary nonprofit served by The Travelers Championship in Cromwell every year – The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp – has been named the 2014 PGA Tour Charity of the Year.
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp was founded by actor Paul Newman in Ashford to help seriously ill children and their families attend year-round recreation and healing programs at the camp. The camp provides 30,000 experiences annually to children and their parents.
The nonprofit is the primary recipient of the money raised by the PGA Tour event The Travelers Championship in June in Cromwell every year. This year, the golf tournament raised $1.6 million, which was spread among 140 charities.
The $1.6 million was the most raised for charity since Travelers took over title sponsorship of the event eight years ago.
