Property and casualty insurer The Travelers Cos. on Thursday announced it is partnering with AI giant Anthropic to expand the use of generative AI tools across its workforce.
Nearly 10,000 engineers, data scientists, analysts and other employees at Travelers will have access to personalized AI assistants as part of the project, the company said.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Anthropic is the maker of popular public-facing AI tool Claude. Travelers, which has major operations in Hartford, said it has already been experimenting with the technology.
“Since we started introducing personalized Claude and Claude Code assistants, we have seen significantly elevated levels of engineering excellence and meaningful improvements in productivity,” said Mojgan Lefebvre, chief technology and operations officer at Travelers.
Each assistant will be tailored to the employee’s role and the tools and systems they use, drawing on Travelers’ internal data and institutional knowledge to improve productivity and accelerate work in areas such as software development and analytics, according to the company.
The agreement marks a significant step up in Travelers’ use of generative AI across the company. Travelers has already rolled out its own internal platform, TravAI, to more than 30,000 employees, giving staff access to AI tools connected to company systems and workflows.
The announcement comes as major insurers ramp up spending on AI and broader technology upgrades.
The Hartford recently said it plans to open a new technology office in Columbus, Ohio, with roughly 75 employees focused on artificial intelligence, cloud architecture and other modernization initiatives.
The expanded AI rollout at Travelers also ties into efforts by Hartford-area leaders to strengthen the city’s position as a center for AI innovation. Hartford, with the help of corporate partners, is seeking state funding through Connecticut’s $100 million Innovation Clusters initiative to establish an AI innovation hub in the city.
