Travelers Named Walk MS Title Sponsor

For a fourth year, Travelers has been named the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter Walk MS title sponsor. In 1995, under the leadership of Connecticut resident and then Travelers staff member Jean Cormier, Travelers registered its first team. In 1997 Travelers partnered with the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter as a corporate sponsor and was named Corporate Sponsor of the Year.

In 2009, the Travelers Walk MS team, captained by Todd Bateson, was the top fundraising team statewide with a fundraising total of $44,552.

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has been named the 2010 Walk MS presenting sponsor. In 2009, the walk event raised more than $1.16 million and attracted a record number of participants as 9,335 walkers stepped out.

The 2009 annual meeting at Hebrew Health Care marked the installation of Gary R. Schwartz as its new board of trustees chairman. Also installed as officers are: Gideon Rutenberg, first vice chairperson; Linda F. Cohen, vice chairperson; Gene Rosenberg, vice chairperson; Judith R. Rosenthal, assistant vice chairperson; Brad M. Hutensky, vice chairperson/secretary; Bonnie G. Gauthier, president and CEO; and David A. Houle.

Nineteen other trustees were seated to serve one-, two- and three-year terms.

In addition, Roz Bobrow Hahn and John D. Shulansky, Hebrew Health Care board members, were recognized with the Spirit of Hebrew Health Care Award for their involvement and dedication to the organization. Amina Weiland, an administrative assistant with Hebrew Health Care, also was recognized with the spirit award for her overall excellence in the workplace.

The National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut honored Dr. Majid Rasoulpour, director of pediatric nephrology at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, and Brad Davis, morning host of WDRC-AM 1360 with the Gift of Life Community Achievement Award.

Alta Moda Salon Spa & Boutique of Rocky Hill raised more than $1,000 for the Arthritis Foundation, Northern & Southern New England Chapter, by holding a Cut-a-Thon.

Alta Moda opened its doors on a Sunday to offer discount spa and salon services. Customers dined on sandwiches and salads donated by New York Pickle Deli while waiting for their haircut, manicure or chair massage.
