Hartford Public Library’s teen digital media center, YOUmedia Hartford, has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Travelers Foundation. YOUmedia Hartford is a manufacturing center combining practical, hands-on experience with innovation in science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM).
The Travelers Foundation funds will outfit the learning lab, shown above, with advanced tools, equipment, materials, and software, and provide support for staffing and programming that highlights STEAM activities.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has awarded The Hartford Public Library with its Citizenship and Integration grant in support of services that help permanent residents prepare and apply for U.S. Citizenship.
The $248,842 grant will allow HPL to serve a larger immigrant population by expanding existing citizenship instruction programs to its Albany Avenue branch in Hartford’s North End.
HPL is one of 40 organizations in 24 states to receive the award and the only recipient in Connecticut. HPL is also the only public library in the country to receive funding.Â

EquiPower Resources recently donated $300,000 to the Capitol Region Education Council to help grow its athletic program.
This is the largest donation CREC has received for its athletic program, which started in the fall of 2012 because the organization recognized that offering sports activities supports student development and success, bolsters school spirit, and teaches students life-long lessons.

First Niagara Bank, through its nonprofit First Niagara Foundation, is donating $75,000 to support the Governor’s Prevention Partnership, a statewide public-private alliance working to build a strong future workforce through leadership in youth mentoring.
The contribution will be used to strengthen GPP’s efforts throughout Connecticut by assisting local organizations in the design and implementation of youth mentoring programs.

The Wilson-Gray YMCA Youth and Family Center received a $3,500 grant from the People’s United Community Foundation to support its Teen Incentive Program that benefits underserved teenagers from Hartford’s Clay-Arsenal and Upper Albany neighborhoods.
