Connecticut’s biggest golf tournament is going to carry the Travelers name for the next decade, the insurer and PGA Tour officials announced today.
Travelers, which became the tournament’s title sponsor in 2007 after Buick’s sponsorship ended, was joined by PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and others at the Connecticut Convention Center this morning to announce the renewed deal.
“We have no better partner on the PGA Tour than Travelers and [CEO] Jay Fishman,” Finchem said.
Finchem said the tournament reaches more than 1 billion homes across the world, which he said creates value for sponsors and for Connecticut.
The tournament, held at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell in June, has contributed $160 million to the state’s economy and raised $7 million for charity since 2007, according to state figures.
