TransAct 4Q earnings decline on lower sales

Hamden printer and software maker TransAct Technologies said its fourth-quarter profits fell 42 percent on lower sales across its business units, particularly its lottery division.

TransAct earned a $1.1 million profit, or 13 cents per diluted share, down from $1.9 million, or 21 cents, during the final quarter of 2012.

The company booked $12.5 million in revenue, down 36 percent from $19.6 million a year ago.

Equipment sales to lottery vendors fell by 79 percent, to $1.6 million. TransAct said its 2012 fourth quarter benefitted from an end-of-life product sale that impacted the year-over-year comparison.

For the full year, the company’s profit increased from $3.6 million, or 40 cents a share, to $4.9 million, or 57 cents. The increase came despite lower revenue, which fell 12 percent to $60.1 million. TransAct made up the difference with lower costs and operating expenses.
