Traffic control company uses Bristol jobs fair in search for 100 workers

Traffic control company Area Wide Protective (AWP), which provides traffic management services for infrastructure, construction and utility projects across the nation and state, will be looking for 100 new workers at a Bristol jobs fair Nov. 15.

AWP’s job fair is slated Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel at 42 Century Drive.

A total of 100 part-time traffic control specialists and flaggers are needed, officials said. New workers will begin at $11 per hour and can earn up to a $3 hourly pay increase after 90 days.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license and their own transportation. Job seekers will also run applicants through a criminal background check and a drug test.

Founded in 1992, AWP has operations in Bristol, Danbury and over 70 other locations across roughly 20 states.

The jobs fair comes as many employers across the state search for new talent amid a tight and shifting labor market. Other industries in need of workers include health care, construction and advanced manufacturing.
