Town of E. Hartford leasing historic building for brewpub or other uses

The town of East Hartford says it’s leasing a historic building downtown that was recently vacated by a banquet and catering company.

Town officials on Wednesday announced the two-story brick edifice at 1450 Main St. is now for lease after Tastebuds Banquet & Catering left the facility in June. The town collaborated with the business in 1998 to renovate the building.

The historic structure spans over 8,818 square feet and can accommodate up to 210 people and has 68 surface parking spaces.

Officials say the building, zoned for mixed-use or commercial development on 1.22 acres, would be best suited as a restaurant, brewpub or catering facility.

In January, the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission revised its regulations to allow for breweries and brewpubs in commercial zones. Those changes allowed for the development of a new brewery, billed as The Paddle Creek Beer Co., at 1277-1287 Main St. The venue is expected to open sometime this fall.

The town says it’s accepting request for proposals (RFPs) until Aug. 27.

Built in 1909, the historic building was originally used as the former Second North School.
