Top CT city insurer names new CEO

The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities on Monday announced the retirement and replacement of the CEO for its city and town insurance division.

The Connecticut Interlocal Risk Management Agency, which provides property-auto-liability coverage and worker’s compensation insurance to more than 85 percent of the state’s municipalities and public schools, has named David Demchak as its new president CEO effective July 1.

Demchak will take over for retiring President and CEO Bruce Wollschlager, who has served in the position for the previous eight years. Wallschlager joined CIRMA in 2001 as chief operating officer and, during his 14-year tenure at CIRMA, oversaw the transformation of the division from a residual insurance market to the market of choice for cities, towns, and schools.

Demchak first joined CIRMA in 1989 as director of management services and was promoted to vice president in 2003 before assuming his current senior vice president role in 2011.
