Tighe & Bond engineer earns license

Cynthia Castellon, an engineer at Tighe & Bond’s Middletown office, recently passed her Principles and Practice of Engineering exams to become professionally licensed. Castellon has worked on water and wastewater projects, including evaluation and design of several wastewater pump stations for the city of Middletown. She also has provided construction services for the South Essex Sewerage District, as well as design and construction services for improvements to the Southwick Wellfield and Treatment Facility in West Springfield, Mass. In addition, Castellon prepared the water supply plan for Aquarion Water Co.’s water system in Brookfield.

CT Children’s practitioner named Nursing Fellow

Dr. Renee Manworren, a nurse scientist for Connecticut Children’s Division of Pain and Palliative Care Medicine, has been selected as an American Academy of Nursing Fellow. She will be inducted into the program during the Academy’s 40th annual meeting on Oct. 19th in Washington, D.C. The Academy is composed of more than 2,000 nurse leaders in education, management, practice policy, and research.

An expert in acute pediatric pain assessment and management, Manworren’s research focuses on the role of the family and innovative methods of managing post-surgical pain. She is also an assistant professor for the University of Connecticut School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics and the University of Connecticut School of Nursing.

SBA names Toole CT Financial Services Champion

Gary Toole, vice president at Community Investment Corp. (CIC), was recently named the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Financial Services Champion of the Year for Connecticut, receiving the award at the SBA’s Small Business Week Event at the Hartford Club. Toole has worked for CIC since 2000 specializing in the SBA 504 loan program providing 90 percent financing for owner occupied properties. He has been in the finance and banking industry 42 years.

McCarter & English partner named to up-and-comer list

Human Resource Executive has named McCarter & English partner Richard F. Vitarelli an “up-and-comer” among “The Nation’s Most Powerful Employment Attorneys.” Vitarelli represents Fortune 100 corporations and privately held companies before state and federal departments of labor, the National Labor Relations Board, the National Mediation Board, state and federal labor relations and fair employment practices agencies, and in labor arbitration. He has been listed annually by Best Lawyers and as a Connecticut Super Lawyer since 2006.

University of St. Joseph nursing prof. honored

Janet Knecht, an assistant professor of nursing at the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, was recently selected as the 2012-2013 recipient of the Reverend John J. Stack Teaching Excellence Award. Currently completing her dissertation for her Ph.D. in nursing at UConn, Knecht has been teaching at St. Joseph since 2008. As the winner of the Stack Award, she will deliver the convocation address at the start of the fall semester on Aug. 29. The Reverend John J. Stack Teaching Excellence Award recognizes members of the faculty who have made outstanding contributions to student learning.
