Thru Aug., CT’s ’14 new-home permits strong

Connecticut housing construction slipped in August from a year earlier but the pace the first eight months of this year is well ahead of 2013, the state says.

There were 380 permits issued in the 128 cities and towns who regularly report permit tallies to the state Department of Economic and Community Development. That compares to 416 permits issued in those communities in August 2013, an 8.6 percent drop, the agency said Thursday.

From January through August of this year, 3,197 permits for single and multi-family dwellings have been issued vs. 2,723 issued the first eight months of 2013 — a 17.4 percent increase, DECD said.

In the first eight months of 2004, Connecticut communities had issued 6,570 home-building permits, DECD data showed.
