Three QU profs awarded at business conference

Three finance professors from the Quinnipiac University School of Business earned the “Best Paper Award” at the recent Academy of International Business Northeast Chapter’s annual conference held in Hartford.

The winners were: Surya Chelikani, assistant professor of finance, Thomas Coe, associate professor and chair of finance, and Osman Kilic, professor of finance. They co-authored the award-winning paper, “Financial Crisis and Contagion: The Effects of the 2008 Financial Crisis on the Turkish Financial Sector,” which has also been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Applied Economics.

Murtha Cullina consultant earns appointment

Janemarie W. Murphy, director of legislative operations for Murtha Cullina LLP’s government affairs group, was recently named vice-chair of State Law Resources Inc., an international network of independent law firms that helps businesses, trade associations and public policy coalitions manage legal issues and state government relations.

Murphy’s responsibilities will include serving as chair of the marketing committee where she will oversee SLR’s internal and external communications projects and strategies. Murphy has served as a board member of SLR since 2009.

Murphy provides government affairs group clients with services ranging from legislative and administrative lobbying to the creation and implementation of client-based public policy and grass roots strategies.

Berkshire Bank garners two marketing awards

Berkshire Bank recently won two awards from the New England Financial Marketing Association in the “Internal Marketing” and “Overall Philanthropy” categories for institutions with over $1.5 billion in assets.

The Internal Marketing award recognized Berkshire Bank’s America’s Most Exciting Bank University program, which featured seminars and hands-on activities for the company’s staff demonstrating the importance of working and playing hard.

The Overall Philanthropy award recognized Berkshire Bank Foundation’s employee volunteer program, as well as its philanthropic investments in the community through charitable grants, corporate giving and in-kind donations. The employee volunteer program provides paid time off for employees to volunteer during regular business hours.
